Bombardier is delivering 18 low-floor FLEXITY vehicles for the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, that will move over six and a half million in the first year of passenger service.
The Gold Coast tram has been specifically styled by Bombardier’s Industrial Design team in Brisbane to include a wave motif on the cab front. The tram is 43.4 m long with seven modules for higher capacity and better passenger flow. Connecting 16 stations, the 13 km route passes through many of the city’s key activity centres. Designed with Queensland's diverse population in mind, the fleet of electrically powered, low-floor trams are based on Bombardier’s highly successful FLEXITY family of light rail vehicles that combines proven technology with continuous improvement and innovation.
It features the signature blue and gold colors of the Gold Coast and is the first light rail vehicle in the world designed and built to carry surf boards on specially designed racks. The vehicles are installed with the energy efficient MITRAC propulsion system and FLEXX bogies for a smooth, comfortable ride.
Bombardier Transportation has delivered the INNOVIA APM 300 system for Shanghai Metro’s Line 8 Phase 3 project, also known as Pujiang Line. The system was supplied by Bombardier’s Chinese joint venture CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems Limited (PBTS) and is the result of an order placed by Shanghai Shentong Metro Co. Ltd. in June 2015 for a turnkey automated people mover (APM) system with 44 vehicles.
Shanghai’s Pujiang Line is a new 6.6 km, dual-lane elevated, driverless APM system that solves Pujiangzhen’s first-and-last-kilometre challenge by connecting this large residential district to the Line 8 interchange at the Shendu Highway Station. The INNOVIA APM 300 system, Bombardier’s latest generation of highly-reliable APM technology, offers an eco-friendly passenger experience with a focus on efficiency and safety. It features low-noise and low-vibration rubber tires, while its 1.9-metre wide doors facilitate boarding and exit, reducing the time required at each stop. Paired with the CITYFLO 650 solution – an innovative communications-based train control technology – the INNOVIA APM 300 system also increases the line’s capacity by safely reducing the time and distance needed between each vehicle travelling on the line. In addition, the absence of a driver’s cabin means passengers sitting in the front have a 270° view angle to enjoy the spectacular landscape along the Pujiang Line.
In 2007, Deutsche Bahn (DB) ordered the first fleet of TALENT 2 electric multiple unit trains from Bombardier. The trains serve as the backbone of DB’s regional transport service and they are used on DB’s regional network throughout Germany.
