INTERFLO 250, 450 and 550 are Bombardier's scalable European Rail Traffic Management Ssystem (ERTMS) mainline solutions for Level 1, 2 and 3 respectively suitable for secondary and regional lines, and high speed and commuter lines.
The INTERFLO 150 solution is dedicated to industrial and mining lines.
INTERFLO 100 is suitable for depots and stabling yards.
INTERFLO 200 is a conventional rail control solution for mainlines, suitable for busy networks where headways are reduced and the highest safety integrity level, SIL 4, is required.

The INTERFLO 100 signalling solution enables trains to be stabled remotely in a quick and safe manner, removing the need for drivers to manually operate track equipment. The train dispatcher can control the points from the control room, communicating with the computer-based interlocking system.
The configuration offers automatic point locking along the length of a route, preventing conflicting train movements and improving overall line safety. Delivery can be completed without interrupting ongoing operations, with training provided for dispatchers.
The INTERFLO 150 communications-based solution is tailored for low-density regional lines, as well as long heavy freight and mineral haulage lines running from mine to port, where minimized or no wayside equipment is required as the infrastructure may not exist to support this.
The system is also suitable when an increase of capacity requires more sophisticated operational functionalities from the signaling equipment. Enhanced train control functionalities combined with automatic train operations secure maximum capacity with increased safety.
The radio-based signaling solution minimizes the need for separate interlocking and wayside infrastructure, so changes to an existing system are less complex while service and maintenance costs are reduced.
The world’s most advanced underground mine, LKAB in Kiruna, Sweden is equipped with INTERFLO 150. Bombardier is the main supplier of a fully automated solution for train control on approximately 14 km of track. Up to seven trains run simultaneously during full production. The system comprises 27 chutes in 10 groups and four unloading stations.
In the main haulage level of El Teniente, an INTERFLO 150 solution controls nine trains hauling copper ore on a 22 km line, including loading two different types of ore from 25 locations and unloading in four different locations. The implementation of our system has enabled an output increase of 155 per cent from approximately 55,000 to 140,000 tonnes a day.
In the Esmeralda mine (part of El Teniente), four trains run simultaneously 24 hours a day and seven days a week, hauling more than 48,000 tonnes of copper ore a day.
The Grasberg Mine has the world’s largest known gold reserves and the second-largest copper reserves. Bombardier has supplied its INTERFLO 150 rail control solution. The system covers 29 km of track, a centralized traffic control centre and wayside equipment controlling 80 points. The automated system has an integrated interface with 120 chutes and three unloading stations to secure the efficiency of the mine.
Networks utilizing an INTERFLO 200 solution are usually busy and required to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, at the highest safety levels and with reduced headways.
INTERFLO 200 is designed to provide the highest availability and is easily expanded as the network grows.
For high-speeds and increased density, it can be complemented with a national Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system or easily upgraded to ERTMS.
The INTERFLO 200 package includes all the products required for an infrastructure operator to build a complete mainline solution.
The INTERFLO 250 solution is an ERTMS/ETCS Level 1 signalling solution for main lines with SIL4 certification. This solution comprises all the sub-systems required, including the onboard and wayside automatic train protection (ATP) equipment.
The INTERFLO 250 solution is commonly applied as an overlay to existing conventional lines, sometimes equipped with national ATP, providing higher levels of safety, but offering an economical migration and early experience with ERTMS Level 1 technology.
We have developed a range of Specific Transmission Modules (STMs) which can read signals from the legacy wayside Automatic Train Protection (ATP) infrastructure and transfer it to the onboard equipment for execution. The overlay capability of our systems enables shorter delivery times with minimum disruption to the existing service.
The INTERFLO 450 ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 signalling solution is for mainlines with SIL4 certification. This solution comprises all the sub-systems required, including onboard and wayside ERTMS Automatic Train Protection (ATP) equipment.
The INTERFLO 450 solution can be applied to new, dedicated high-speed lines offering high levels of safety and speeds up to 350 km/h, or as an overlay to existing conventional lines, either replacing the national ATP system, or for mixed operating requiring Specific Transmission Modules (STM) functionality. The INTERFLO 450 solution goes a step further, being able to interface with GSM-R and with other railway communications standards such as GPRS and LTE. The need for wayside equipment such as light signals, is completely removed leading to a reduction in long-term maintenance costs.
The INTERFLO 550 wayside train control solution is flexible, modularized and specifically designed to provide the capacity, adaptability and cost-effectiveness needed for both low and high-density lines.
Its modular design concept enables us to customize the solution to particular preferences and supports future growth, while consistently ensuring safe and efficient train operation.
The INTERFLO 550 solution goes a step further, being able to interface with GPRS, LTE, and Tetra.
With the Level 3 Hybrid application, the INTERFLO 550 helps smooth upgrades of Level 2 lines that require an increase in capacity without disrupting existing services. The hybrid solution still allows the use of the existing Level 2 equipment and the operation of non-equipped trains.
