ERTMS

INTERFLO 250, 450 and 550 are Bombardier's scalable European Rail Traffic Management Ssystem (ERTMS) mainline solutions for Level 1, 2 and 3 respectively suitable for secondary and regional lines, and high speed and commuter lines.

INTERFLO 100 – Train Control Solution for Depots and Stabling Yards

The INTERFLO 100 signalling solution enables trains to be stabled remotely in a quick and safe manner, removing the need for drivers to manually operate track equipment. The train dispatcher can control the points from the control room, communicating with the computer-based interlocking system.  

The configuration offers automatic point locking along the length of a route, preventing conflicting train movements and improving overall line safety. Delivery can be completed without interrupting ongoing operations, with training provided for dispatchers.

Cost-Effective Signalling Solution for Depots and Stabling Yards

The INTERFLO 100 signalling solution has the following features:

Train Detection

The continuous detection on the position ofo the vehicle in the INTERFLO 100 solution can be done either using EBI Track 2000 axle counter system or EBI Track 400 track circuits to send the information to the computer-based interlocking for safe route-setting, releasing and other control commands.

Signals

Signals indicate current point positions and route-locking to the drivers and are controlled by the computer-based interlocking via the object controllers. The computer-based interlocking EBI Lock 400 Computer-Based Interlocking (CBI) determines the signal aspect, being possible to adjust the light intensity of the signal.

Control Room

Train movement in the yard is controlled and monitored by the EBI Screen 300 local control room system; train dispatchers can set routes and manage individual points. The current status of the yard is displayed in a schematic overview and shows current train locations, malfunctioning infrastructure elements and locked routes. The dispatcher can also insert text boxes which store detailed information about the trains such as coach numbers, departure times and maintenance status.

Computer-Based Interlocking - CBI

EBI Lock 400 CBI manages all the wayside equipment and verifies its status transferring this information to the EBI Screen central traffic control room system. It also verifies the accuracy and safety of the commands sent. The CBI uses object controllers, that can be centralized in the control room or distributed along the track, to interface with wayside equipment.

Point Machines

A range of EBI Switch point machines are available, depending on what is most suitable for the particular market. Point machines are operated by the EBI Lock CBI.

INTERFLO 150 – Radio-Based Solution for Mining and Industrial Lines

The INTERFLO 150 communications-based solution is tailored for low-density regional lines, as well as long heavy freight and mineral haulage lines running from mine to port, where minimized or no wayside equipment is required as the infrastructure may not exist to support this.

The system is also suitable when an increase of capacity requires more sophisticated operational functionalities from the signaling equipment. Enhanced train control functionalities combined with automatic train operations secure maximum capacity with increased safety.

The radio-based signaling solution minimizes the need for separate interlocking and wayside infrastructure, so changes to an existing system are less complex while service and maintenance costs are reduced.

This is a modern state-of-the-art computer-based control and supervision system allowing the operator to give commands through a mouse or keyboard. It offers the facility to have the position of the vehicles and optional wayside objects shown on both, normal display screens and large rear projection screens.

Computer-Based Interlocking

The INTERFLO 150 solution uses the EBI Lock computer-based interlocking system. One interlocking can control multiple stations and intermediate lines from a central location. Wayside objects such as point machines and level crossings are remotely controlled and monitored.

Radio Block Centre

The INTERFLO 150 solution integrates the interlocking and radio block centre functionality within the same hardware to provide movement authorities, based on safe routes, to the train. It also keeps track of the train’s position.

ATP Wayside Equipment

The INTERFLO 150 solution uses Automatic Train Protection (ATP) wayside equipment – EBI Link balises – as a reference point for the trains to calibrate their position on the track.

ATC Onboard Equipment

The radio based EBI Cab automatic train control (ATC) onboard equipment, represents the distributed onboard system. The ATP onboard system controls the train according to the continuous information sent by the radio block centre, and in accordance with CENELEC it has a SIL2 and SIL3 safety level certification.

The INTERFLO 150 solution also supports automatic train operation (ATO). By adding an ATO computer and an interface to the driver's control panel, driverless operation can be achieved.

An automatic load-handling system is also available for industrial lines. An advanced Train Integrity Control system (TIC) monitors the status of the train. TIC is capable of controlling active equipment on the cars, such as automatic loading and unloading systems and de-railing sensors.

INTERFLO 200 – Conventional Solution for Mainlines with SIL4 Certification

Networks utilizing an INTERFLO 200 solution are usually busy and required to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, at the highest safety levels and with reduced headways.

INTERFLO 200 is designed to provide the highest availability and is easily expanded as the network grows.

For high-speeds and increased density, it can be complemented with a national Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system or easily upgraded to ERTMS.

The INTERFLO 200 package includes all the products required for an infrastructure operator to build a complete mainline solution.

A range of EBI Switch point machines are available to be used, depending on what is most suitable for the particular market. Conventional or sleeper integrated point machines are used in the INTERFLO 200 solution. The point machines are operated by the EBI Lock CBI.

Signals

The INTERFLO 200 solution uses conventional, fibre-optic or LED signals. The signals are used to give the train proceed or not-to-proceed information.

Level Crossings

Complete EBI Gate level crossing systems are used in the INTERFLO 200 solution.

INTERFLO 250 – Scale Up Your Network to ERTMS Level 1

The INTERFLO 250 solution is an ERTMS/ETCS Level 1 signalling solution for main lines with SIL4 certification. This solution comprises all the sub-systems required, including the onboard and wayside automatic train protection (ATP) equipment.

The INTERFLO 250 solution is commonly applied as an overlay to existing conventional lines, sometimes equipped with national ATP, providing higher levels of safety, but offering an economical migration and early experience with ERTMS Level 1 technology.

We have developed a range of Specific Transmission Modules (STMs) which can read signals from the legacy wayside Automatic Train Protection (ATP) infrastructure and transfer it to the onboard equipment for execution. The overlay capability of our systems enables shorter delivery times with minimum disruption to the existing service.

Fixed telegram Eurobalises are mainly used to transmit static information and to serve as reference points for the trains to calibrate their position on the track. These Eurobalises give an exact position to the train as it passes and allows the train to normalize its position.

INTERFLO 450 – ERTMS Level 2 Signalling for High-Speed Lines

The INTERFLO 450 ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 signalling solution is for mainlines with SIL4 certification. This solution comprises all the sub-systems required, including onboard and wayside ERTMS Automatic Train Protection (ATP) equipment.

The INTERFLO 450 solution can be applied to new, dedicated high-speed lines offering high levels of safety and speeds up to 350 km/h, or as an overlay to existing conventional lines, either replacing the national ATP system, or for mixed operating  requiring Specific Transmission Modules (STM) functionality. The INTERFLO 450 solution goes a step further, being able to interface with GSM-R and with other railway communications standards such as GPRS and LTE. The need for wayside equipment such as light signals, is completely removed leading to a reduction in long-term maintenance costs.

Our EBI Link portfolio is a range of Automatic Train Protection (ATP) wayside equipment including Eurobalises which provide ATP for main line and mass transit systems.

INTERFLO 550 – Communication-Based Signalling System for ERTMS-Compatible Regional Lines

The INTERFLO 550 wayside train control solution is flexible, modularized and specifically designed to provide the capacity, adaptability and cost-effectiveness needed for both low and high-density lines.

Its modular design concept enables us to customize the solution to particular preferences and supports future growth, while consistently ensuring safe and efficient train operation.

The INTERFLO 550 solution goes a step further, being able to interface with GPRS, LTE, and Tetra.


With the Level 3 Hybrid application, the INTERFLO 550 helps smooth upgrades of Level 2 lines that require an increase in capacity without disrupting existing services. The hybrid solution still allows the use of the existing Level 2 equipment and the operation of non-equipped trains.

Radio Block Centre

The EBI Com radio block centre transfers the train position sent by radio to the interlocking systems. Information about train routes from the interlocking systems is then sent to the EBI Com radio block centre and converted into movement authorities to be sent out to individual trains.

ATP Wayside Equipment

Our EBI Link portfolio is a range of Automatic Train Protection (ATP) wayside equipment including Eurobalises that provide ATP for main line and mass transit systems.

EBI Link operates in conjunction with the onboard ATP computer giving drivers speed information and details about objects ahead such as signals or points. Balises communicate either fixed or variable data from track to train and are ERTMS-compliant. The balise is activated by an antenna mounted under a passing train, thus, avoiding the need for a power supply.

Train Detection

Detection of vehicles in the INTERFLO 550 solution is done via radio but the system is capable of operating with secondary train detection through axle counters or track circuits if required.

Level Crossings

Complete EBI Gate level crossing systems are used in the INTERFLO 550 solution.

ATC Onboard Equipment

The onboard EBI Cab ATP system ensures that train movements are carried out safely in accordance with the movement authorities by continuously monitoring the train speed. EBI Cab informs the driver when to brake and initiates braking (if necessary) to keep the train at a safe speed. The EBI Cab system is designed to increase traffic capacity and safety by allowing higher speeds and shorter headways between trains.

Automatic Train Control (ATC) wayside equipment on the track informs the onboard ATC about traffic restrictions coming up and gives continuous information on the highest permissible speed. The necessary information is presented on the driver's panel.
