Modern mobility Offer: Bombardier and Abellio Present the New TALENT 2 Train for Baden-Württemberg to Minister for Transportation Hermann

Today rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation and private mobility provider Abellio jointly presented the new regional, multiple-unit train from the BOMBARDIER TALENT 2 series for Stuttgart's Necker valley regional network. The highlights of the event at the Bombardier site in Hennigsdorf were the joint vehicle inspection with Baden-Württemberg's Minister for Transportation Winfried Hermann and the visit to the Virtual Reality Lab. The digital development of the trains was presented and explained here with the help of 3D visualisations.

In addition to the Minister for Transportation, the heads of Abellio and Bombardier in Germany, Stephan Krenz and Michael Fohrer, were also among the many guests to attend the event. Together they both displayed the Abellio logo on the moving Bombardier vehicle for the first time along with the new public transport umbrella brand bwegt, which Minister Hermann had presented the previous week in Stuttgart.

“New transport companies on the market provide a breath of fresh air. What’s more, with the attractive new trains there is a new travel experience for short-distance transport. You will be able to avoid road-traffic congestion in the Neckar valley with air conditioning, WiFi and more space for luggage or bicycles. Today, Bombardier and Abellio have shown that they are taking a professional approach to tackling the tasks of the future”, said Winfried Hermann, Minister of Transportion for Baden-Württemberg.

“With these 48 modern and comfortable yellow-and-white Abellio trains we will be launching our quality campaign for passengers in mid-2019. They will mark the beginning of a new era for mobility in Baden-Württemberg. Rail travel through the Neckar valley can therefore be made fun again. As one of Germany’s leading competitive railways, we are also aiming to become quality leaders here with motivated and qualified employees”, said Stephan Krenz, Director of Abellio, at the vehicle and logo presentation.

“Politics, Abellio and Bombardier are united by the common goal of providing passengers in the Stuttgart regional network a modern travel experience with brand-new trains as of 2019. Constructive and partnership-based cooperation is the key to success here”, said Michael Fohrer, Head of Bombardier Transportation in Germany. “With our innovative TALENT 2 trains, we are proud to make an important contribution to mobility in Baden-Württemberg, which will be safer and more environmentally friendly.”

The trains for Abellio are 26 electric multiple units with three carriages and 22 electric multiple units with five carriages. The vehicles are equipped with WiFi, provide disabled access and 24 or 39 bicycle parking spaces, respectively. The trains earn top marks in energy efficiency and reliability. As of 2019 they will gradually commence passenger operations, and by June 2020 all 48 trains will have been delivered to Abellio. The multiple-unit trains are being built at the Bombardier site in Hennigsdorf and the bogies are to be produced at the plant in Siegen.

There are around 400 TALENT 2 trains in service in Germany. They form the backbone of regional transport and are used by various private transport companies and Deutsche Bahn. With a recently placed order of five additional TALENT trains by Abellio Deutschland, the mark of 500 TALENT orders was reached.
