Mobility solution provider Bombardier Transportation announced today that it has received an order from Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) for seven additional Class 430 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains for their Rhine-Main S-Bahn. These new trains will operate on the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), the main railway network in Germany’s Frankfurt Rhine-Main area. This contract redeemed the option from the order placed in 2011.
“I am very pleased to support Deutsche Bahn’s efforts to expand the Rhine-Main S-Bahn’s public transport services with our proven vehicles,” said Michael Fohrer, Chairman of the German Management Board of Bombardier Transportation. “Last year passenger numbers increased more than ten per cent, illustrating the S-Bahn’s importance as the backbone of the region’s public rail transport. As part of the S-Bahn fleet, the new vehicles will make an important contribution to even more sustainable mobility going forward.”
The additional vehicles will enable RMV to expand its services. Engineered similarly to the first-generation Class 430 EMUs, the seven new Rhine-Main S-Bahn trains will easily couple with the 91 existing trains that have been in stable passenger service since 2014.
The train’s air-conditioning and spacious layout will enable greater passenger comfort while its modern video surveillance cameras, ensure safety and security for passengers. The train also has wide multi-purpose areas and a modern passenger information system that displays information on connecting trains in real time. S-Bahn trains of the same vehicle type are also successfully in operation in the Stuttgart region.
