Bombardier Transportation’s Climate Innovation Committee

Long recognized as a responsible corporate citizen, we have recently launched a global, cross-functional working group to develop and deliver climate innovation solutions for our customers and our stakeholders.

Anthony Watanabe

Climate Innovation Committee

Climate innovation, supported by digitalization, is the way forward for our customers, our industry and our planet.

Created in June 2020, the Bombardier Transportation Climate Innovation Committee is led by Anthony Watanabe, Head of Digital and Climate Innovation, for our Rail Control Solutions business. The Climate Innovation Committee draws insights and expertise from members of Bombardier Transportation’s global footprint and various business units like rolling stock, services and signalling.

The Committee’s mandate is to identify and track customer climate change priorities while sharing and scaling innovative solutions to decarbonize rail infrastructure – already the most sustainable mode of motorized transportation.

This global, cross-functional approach reflects our focus on predicting and supporting our customers’ desire to leverage innovative mobility solutions in their fight against climate change.

Climate innovation, supported by digitalization, is the way forward for our business, our customers and our planet.

Supporting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals

As a global mobility solution provider, we are ideally positioned to help the world meet its climate change commitments.

Indeed, with transportation typically representing 25 per cent of a country’s CO2 emissions, and rail often trailing behind private motorized transportation as a percentage, there is a significant opportunity for Bombardier Transportation to help nations reach their emission targets set under the Paris Agreement.

That's why the UN's Sustainable Development Goals number 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities is so important to Bombardier Transportation. While all the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals are essential, our Climate Innovation Committee specifically focuses on the SDG number 11 that emphasizes building partnerships that create impact across the transportation industry.

To achieve this, our Climate Innovation Committee meets regularly to share customer initiatives around sustainability, to exchange best practices.

The Climate Innovation Committee

Climate change is impacting every one of us. We all have a role to play in protecting our planet. Working at Bombardier Transportation brings us additional opportunities to contribute to climate innovation, by consistently developing our mobility solutions and raising awareness on green bonds opportunities.

Climate Bonds Initiative

After months of informal collaboration, we have recently formalized our partnership with the Climate Bonds Initiative.

This investor-focused, non-profit organization has a mission to promote, track, and certify green bonds around the world. As leading provider of sustainable mobility solutions, Bombardier Transportation is eligible to use proceeds from this quickly growing financial instrument, as witnessed by our many customers from Europe, to North America to Asia who have successfully been issuing green bonds since 2016.

This exciting and innovative partnership will enable our two organizations to collaborate more closely on driving global capital flows to develop more rail infrastructure which delivers net benefits to GDP, safety, and air quality.

With the CBI’s support, we are  eager to share the green bond opportunity with our customers around the world. Get in touch if you’d like more information.
