Bombardier in the United States

Bombardier has a long history of investment and success in the United States. We employ thousands across the country to manufacture and service trains and planes. We provide high-skill, well-paying jobs in the communities where we operate, and contribute to the U.S. export base. Our products, even those assembled outside of the country, use significant amounts of U.S.-produced parts and support thousands of additional U.S. jobs down the supply chain.

Our in-service product base provides vital transportation options for U.S. citizens coast to coast. 6,300 of our rail vehicles and 3,750 of our aircraft move people each day. Highlights of our U.S. impact:

  • Some 7,000 employees across 17 states
  • $14,3 billion in business for U.S. suppliers across 49 states (2013–17)
  • $2,6 billion in direct export sales from U.S. activities (2013–17)
  • $11.5 billion in indirect exports from international activities (2013–17)
  • $1.1 billion invested in U.S. operations (2013–17)
  • Four manufacturing sites (Plattsburgh, NY; Wichita, KS; and two in Pittsburgh, PA)
  • Twenty-six service centres; two parts distribution centres; two component repair and overhaul facilities; one equipment refurbishment centre

Projects in the United States

Bombardier Transportation provides rail equipment, systems and aftermarket services to transit and airport authorities across the U.S. It has a broad installed product base, including:

  • 20 high-speed trainsets for the Amtrak Acela Express High Speed Train service – the first and only high speed trains in North America
  • More than 1,800 subway cars in New York City
  • More than 1,100 electric commuter rail cars serving New York
  • More than 400 aluminum BiLevel commuter cars operating in 11 U.S. metropolitan regions
  • Fully automated transit systems in 18 U.S. cities
  • A driverless monorail system in the heart of Las Vegas
  • Nearly 500 stainless steel, MultiLevel vehicles in New Jersey and Maryland
  • Electric and dual-power locomotives with NJ TRANSIT
  • A fleet of light rail vehicles in Minneapolis
  • Over 700 rapid transit cars in Chicago

U.S. projects currently underway include:

  • 300 subway cars for New York City
  • 775 rail cars for San Francisco
  • Positive Train Control capability on sections of the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad
  • An INNOVIA APM 256 automated people mover system with 36 vehicles for Chicago O’Hare International Airport

Bombardier’s rail business employs U.S. workers at production and services sites across 12 states. The company manufactures rail vehicles at its facility in Plattsburgh, New York. Sites outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania produce rail products for both domestic and export markets.

Public notice - DBE goal

Bombardier Transit Corporation

and such parties’ parent company, Bombardier Inc., is informing the public of a 6% FTA Annual DBE participation goal for the fiscal year 2020.

This goal is based on anticipated work.
