With Thailand a major economic zone in ASEAN, investments are underway, including to expand the rail network. Bombardier is one of the few rail transportation companies to support the country’s economic development in a true sense by delivering projects from Thailand for Thailand. Bangkok is also a hub for Bombardier’s Asia Pacific business. Since establishing its Bangkok site in 1997, Bombardier has grown its local team to over 600 highly skilled engineers and employees, delivering projects in Thailand, the region and globally.
With over 22 years’ experience in the market Bombardier has a strong track record in delivering mainline and mass transit rail technology to its valued customers to improve transportation in Thailand. Its major projects in delivery and service include recent orders won for the expansion of Bangkok’s mass transit network including vehicles and full turnkey systems for Thailand’s first Monorail and driverless mass transit Lines, as well as rail control and wayside systems for extensions to the existing BTS Skytrain. In addition, its rail control is in service on the operational Skytrain and Bangkok’s MRT Purple Line, and on the State Railway of Thailand mainline network.
Bangkok – Regional Engineering Centre
The Bangkok site was established as the first Regional Centre for Signalling in Asia in 1997 and the local engineering team has now delivered solutions for over 27 projects in 18 countries. Engineering skills are in high demand and Bombardier is committed to developing local training, skills and education. In 2017, a state-of-the-art CITYFLO CBTC Test Centre was opened for projects across the Region. Additionally, Bombardier is developing rail engineering education with three Universities, and in 2016, helped found the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers Thailand.
