We have supplied solutions to the Swedish national railway system for over 100 years. Through our long-standing relationships with the Swedish railway and public transport, we understand specific local requirements and the needs of both authorities and operators in the market.
About 1,800 highly skilled employees are based locally to provide the latest technology for the Swedish railway industry, including project delivery, an engineering hub for rail control, a production centre for propulsion systems and a network of service centres.
A wide range of our mobility solutions is currently in service in Sweden. With proven technology and modular design, our vehicles save energy and keep prices down for fleet owners and operators. Whether to transport freight, travel to the airport, work in another region or simply cross the city, our high-capacity signalling solutions provides an optimized flow of trains.
We are leaders in implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), and the only supplier in Sweden to receive official approval for our ERTMS Level 2 technology. This was granted in 2017 by the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, and Swedish Transport Agency, Transportstyrelsen. This opens the door for our system to be part of Sweden’s modernization program for its entire 11,000-kilometre mainline rail network and in January 2019 we started installation on first part of Malmbanan project. Our onboard systems are compatible with both ERTMS and the existing signalling system, enabling a seamless upgrade.
The new MOVIA C30 vehicles for the Stockholm Metro meet strict environmental standards. Materials used are 98 per cent recyclable, maintenance costs are low, and the vehicles set new standards in comfort and capacity with their award-winning design.
In 2010, Bombardier won a contract to supply a fully automated INTERFLO 150 train control system to the world’s most advanced underground mine, LKAB in Kiruna, Sweden.
The Botnia and Ådal Lines are equipped with ERTMS Level 2 technology, enabling speeds of up to 250 km/h. Bombardier’s INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 solution will underlie further roll-out in Sweden.
Bombardier won a contract to supply a INTERFLO 200 signalling system on the 20 km Arlanda Airport link in Stockholm, used by 100 trains a day.
It includes EBI Lock computer-based interlockings, EBI Cab ATC onboard equipment, EBI Switch point machines, passenger information systems and expansion of the traffic management system in the Greater Stockholm control centre.
Powerful IORE locomotives are designed for heavy-haul freight trains. They are in service in an extreme climatic environment where iron ore trains of 8,200 t are hauled from inland mines to the coasts of Sweden and Norway.
